Are you working in a business, charity, local authority, school or other public sector organisation which is tackling climate change? Are you encouraging the use of sustainable energy, changing the way people use energy or teaching the next generation to save energy and care for the environment? Do you want to put your local sustainable energy solution in the global spotlight and inspire others?

Each year the Ashden Awards reward ground-breaking initiatives, sharing their hard-won success and gaining them wider recognition. Your solution may be simple – but if it’s inspiring, practical and innovative too, we want to hear about it.

Applications must be for work that has been running for at least a year, that is technically excellent and is improving the lives of local people. It’s a tall order but one that many UK winners have already met. In addition to individual prizes of up to £10,000, with an overall UK Gold Award of £20,000, we offer our winners a package of benefits and support including a broadcast-quality short film about their work and an opportunity to have their voice heard by policy-makers.

The 2010 UK Awards rewarded businesses, schools, local authorities and charities throughout the UK. Read about them here.

Details of the 2011 Awards criteria are given in the background information document above. Please note that schools are now invited to apply as part of the general UK Awards and no longer need to complete a separate application form.

Applications for the 2011 Awards are open from July 2010 with a closing date of 26 October 2010 for the UK awards.
