The closing date for applications for the 2010 Schools Award is 24 November 2009. The application form can be downloaded above. Do not be put off by the size of the application form! The first three pages provide information on the application process, the judging process and the timetable for the Awards. The next six pages are where you complete your application and these are followed by a declaration for you to sign and information on obtaining references.

If you can answer YES to most of the questions in the checklist below you should be in a position to readily provide the information needed on the form. It is not a very onerous task given the potential prize money and the opportunity to participate in the prestigious Ashden Awards ceremony in London next summer. So what are you waiting for? Checklist for your school

1. Do your pupils carry out energy saving activities?

2. Are energy topics clearly identified in your curriculum plans?

3. Are your senior managers and governors committed to improving energy management?

4. Does your school have an energy policy or an environmental policy which includes energy?

5. Have you had an audit of your energy use?

6. Have you improved the energy efficiency of your school, for instance by installing insulation or buying energy-efficient equipment?

7. Is someone, such as a bursar, responsible for monitoring energy use?

8. Do you have a whole-school approach to sustainable energy, involving pupils, teachers and non-teaching staff?

9. Do you encourage pupils to improve the energy efficiency of their own homes?

10. Do you have any renewable energy technologies installed?
